Ribbons: Tanka Society of America
Ribbons is a quarterly journal and the official publication
of the Tanka Society of America. Four times a year,
it makes available to its readers over two hundred tanka that have been selected
for their craftsmanship, originality
and value as examples of this unique form of poetry in English. In addition,
Ribbons publishes contemporary
articles on tanka by leading poets and scholars, book reviews that are
thoughtful and incisive, and translations of
poems written by important contemporary Japanese tanka poets. Ribbons,
at all times, aims toward the highest
standards of aesthetic excellence and scholarship in its goal to advance the
writing and study of English language
tanka. It is my hope, and the hope of the Tanka Society of America, that all
readers of English will discover and
continue to enjoy the power, beauty, and unlimited expressiveness of this poetic
form, and that Ribbons will be
one of the reasons they did so.
